A nice engine turned silver vesta by John Edward Wilmot hallmarked in Birmingham in 1909.
Silver Edwardian silver vesta or match safe by J E Wilmot Birmingham 1909
A lovely vesta in good antique condition with a lovely patina decorated with a vertical engine turned design with an engraved cartouche on the front with the initials in script (possible GCL ? please see photographs).
The vesta was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1909 and was made by John Edward Wilmot.
It has a side set ring to be attached to an Albert chain or chatelaine and given its attractive decoration it would make a lovely pendant. Some of our customers use their vestas to keep an emergency £20 note in.
The vesta has a strong spring and opens with good tension and snaps shut. Some light surface scratches, it has a really lovely sheen and patina commensurate with its age and normal usage. It has good clear hallmarks and makers mark on the lip of the closure and the sterling and date letter inside the lid.
