On Line Store - Arts and Crafts Silver
Arts and Crafts was a design and lifestyle movement which started around 1860 and continued until the 1920s with a continuing influence into the 30s and 40s. It was largely a reaction against technology and proponents picked up the old crafts of previous eras in their designs and working methods. It stood for traditional craftsmanship using simple forms and often applied medieval, romantic or folk styles of decoration. As a lifestyle movement it stood for economic and social reform and was essentially anti-industrial. Many arts and crafts silver designers also were prominent in the art nouveau movement - eg Charles Ashbee.
